South Georgia: a must read book
« on: April 21, 2016, 03:00:22 am »

My lucky brother and his wife spent a Christmas on South Georgia island with 50 Norwegians couple of years ago, many of whom were whaling station veterans and their family members from the same island. I would certainly like to visit the place also, but as it is likely to be just a dream, why not dream of going there with my own Nordhavn 72 yacht, costs the sameā€¦

Anyway: I have an excellent book called "The Shore Whaling Stations at South Georgia" by Bjorn L. Basberg, industrial archaeologist who has studied the history of the island, whaling stations there and documented the present state (and future) of the stations. Mighty interesting reading and I would recommend the book to all contemplating going there for whatever reason. Or just dreaming about it.

ISBN number is 82-7099-394-8 and the Amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/Shore-Whaling-Stations-South-Georgia/dp/8270993948/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1461221990&sr=8-1&keywords=the+shore+whaling+stations+at+south+georgia
