ACR and Lightroom
« on: May 23, 2006, 04:17:24 am »

I've been playing around with Lightroom for a couple of weeks now, looking for what will hopefully be a replacement to my current ACR-IVMP-PS setup. One program for the entire digital workflow would be a heaven's sent solution.

My concern now, and question to the readers of this forum, is thus: when I open my RAW-files (DNGs) in Lightroom that I have previously edited in ACR, the changes made to white balance, exposure etc have disappeared. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't ACR save the changes  within the DNG files? If so, why is not Lightroom reading this information?

Another question plaugeing me is the way Lightroom parses IPTC information differently from IVMP. IPTC information added in IVMP doesn't show up in Lightroom. This is most notable for the "people" field in IVMP, but I also have problems with the caption. I have exported the IPTC-information added in IVMP to the files through syncing, and the IPTC-information does show up in ACR.

Is there anyone else experiencing the same problems, and is this a beta-issue that will be sorted out when Lightroom goes gold?

Like I said in the beginning: I'm on the prowl for a one-program solution to most of my digital workflow needs, but I'm not ready to switch from a working, albeit sluggish, ACR-IVMP-PS setup to Lightroom yet.

Looking forward to hearing your input.

Regards,
Andreas

Here's my experience. Saving .DNG FROM Lightroom into ACR doesn't honor the edits (I do have LR set to automatically write the sidecar files which I assumed means it's writing the edits into the .DNG).

Saving a .DNG from ACR does bring the edits into Lightroom for me.

Lightroom does not yet honor ACR edits, although the plan is that it will.

I don't have a specific answer, but be sure to join the public beta forums and contribute points such as this - Adobe is listening to those comments.

As always, I would never use a beta program as a primary tool. Experiement and learn, but still to your existing workflow until the product is released.

Whilst the original ACR edits might be embedded into the DNG you'll find that Lightroom does not currently honour them.
