LR6 falling asleep...
« on: April 18, 2016, 06:13:43 am »

Good Day,

since being on el Capitan, LR6.5 is crashing, whenever the computer was asleep, so I have to start it again.
Does anybody know how this can be fixed ?

cheers

I haven't noticed the phenomenon you mention, Stephan.  But in recent days, I can often no longer view and panels left or right on my selected image, not in develop or print or other modules.  The screen is just black.  The panels show up properly only in the library module.  My fix is also to restart LR6 (not CC), but after a few times a day, that becomes tedious.  I'm using all the latest software with el Capitan too.  This is the first problem I've encountered with LR since version 1.  I'll be tracking your progress - maybe there's a connection to my problem.

Z - does el Capitan produce a crash report?  If not what symptoms do you see?  Are you force quitting it and restarting Lr?

Z - if deleting the Lr preferences doesn't help consider running Disk Utility, First Aid against the drive.

Some of the graphics problems reported here may not be due to PS/Lr but perhaps Safari and Flash in El Capitan. I was experiencing those issues and moved to Chrome with Flash disabled, easily enabled with a click in that browser.

I'm having similar issues when working in the Develop module, particularly when soft proofing. ( I haven't noticed waking from sleep causing any problems ). Have trashed lightroom prefs & ran disk utility on the boot drive & the external thunderbolt drive I have the catalogue on. A crash report is generated after force quitting but I haven't had time to read it & wouldn't know what I was looking at anyway.

Am using Lightroom CC 2015.5, Yosemite 10.10.5 on retina iMac.

All other apps seem to be working OK & this problem has started quite suddenly.

When you exit Lr do you have it set to test integrity, optimize it and back it up?

Have you considered running Disk Utility on the external Thunderbolt drive?

Yes to both Ron. Disk Utility said the Thunderbolt drive ( 2 240 GB SSD's run as raid0 was OK ).

Thanks

I have checked all the same stuff and trashed the prefs to no avail...
one thing, when looking at the activity monitor of the MBpro , LR is using 450% when generating 1x1previews.
does that tell us anything ?

What size do you have the Lr cache set to?

- Preferences
- File Handling
- Camera RAW cache settings

If it's at the default 1GB try increasing to 10 or 20 GB

I'm starting to run out of ideas here...

Before digging into deciphering a Crash report let's get a little simpler.

What other apps are running when Lightroom causes a crash/freeze?  Photoshop? Safari? Adobe CC? Dropbox? etc.

Consider exiting mail and Safari then starting Lightroom and see if it hangs or crashes.
