Hi, I am a new ZD user. I see the battery price is pretty high($175) for a back up. I read somewhere that a common camcorder battery would work. Has anyone found a moded # to match up?

Hi
I have heard that another battery will fit? I have checked on the web and it looks that the SONY NP-F550  LI-ION camcorder battery is the same. It is 7.2v and 1800 mah.  On the web it looks like it will work but go to a store and make sure. There are a lot of other generic batteries for this Sony brand also.
Thanks Denis

Hi
Also go to Iridient Raw and download the new version that supports the Zd. it just came out 2 days ago. I think it is better but needs tweaking.

Hi
This Sony battery looks like that it will need its own charger. On e-bay the Sony battery NP-F550 goes for about $10.00 USD. Make sure it is 7.2V.

Hi
Forget the Sony battery take a look at  http://salestores.com/ener8mmrccab.html and this Energizer ER C610 LI-ION battery looks the same and is the same size. I haven't seen the under side but it looks like you will not have to change battery chargers.
thanks Denis

I bought a couple of generic batteries today (DTI electronics) which are said to replace panasonic BN-V812/814U, VM-BPL13 AND VW-VBD1/B202, they look almost identical 99% so I put them inside the camera and started shooting, everything was fine until I tried to get them out, they didn't wanted to go out, they stopped halfway because the white spring you use for removing the battery gets stuck in one of the rear middle holes, it's not a big deal, I removed the battery just pushing the white thing with a screwdriver and put some sticky tape on its rear part and problem solved. Just a warning, try your new battery before you are in the middle of a photo session!!!

Hope it helps somebody, Regards.

Hello,

I have a ZD back and I'm looking for cheaper batteries, as I like to keep a lot ready when I'm out taking photos. I found this thread but I can't make sense of the battery recommendations. Can someone recommend the part# I'd buy in the USA?

Thanks,
Bill

Perfect! Thanks for the help! It looks like an exact match.

If it works out I'll stock up on them.
