Updated LL RSS Feed...
« on: May 15, 2006, 11:50:16 am »

For those that might be interested, I took some time today to update the screen-scraping code that produces the LL What's New RSS feed.

It now is handling the somewhat inconsistent page formatting of What's New better, and expands image and web links for local LL content to use a fully qualified URL, all in the name of providing a better RSS feed experience.

If, like me, you are too pressed for time to check the LL What's New page regularly, and would rather integrate that into your favourite RSS Newsreader tool, you can find the RSS feed here:

Enjoy!

This is a really useful facility, but since you made this change it does seem to be broken.  Is anyone else having a problem with it?

It wasn't my changes, but an undefined entity (–) that Michael used in the latest post that caused the problem.

I've altered the feed so that it replaces the offending – entities with a plain "-" and all seems to be running well again.

Michael does love his undefined entities (&rsquot; and others). ;-)

I've updated the RSS scraping script so that it handles these new undefined entities and so that it now also handles relative links correctly (ones that start with ../), so that they point to ll.com rather than gryffyn.com (where the script lives).

Looks to be working fine...
