I have not made an offer yet but I have interest in a like new Epson 9900.
If they crate it good that it cannot be turned on it's side I am thinking just leave the ink in it.
Probably would wait until April to make certain nothing can freeze.
Still under warranty and will probably extent it just for peace of mind.
Any other thoughts?

I proceeded with a 7900 in similar condition. Unit should be kept level whilst transported with ink cartridges installed. However, the gamble did not pay off, with carriage home sensor, print head and power supply board failures following (unit out of warranty).
I wish you the best of luck if you proceed; purchase of a new printer with extended warranty might be best course of action.

This is only 6 months old with 22 prints on it under Warranty. I can also purchase the extended warranty anytime before Dec.
Plus they do not make these anymore and I have almost 7000ml of K3 OEM ink which the new model does not use.

might want to consider a carrier that will insure it’s in a cushioned vehicle, not in a semi, which would cut down vibrations and perhaps avoid issues as mentioned by David.  Also if leaving ink in it might be helpful.  Also might want to have a tip indicator placed on the outside, when taking delivery you can insure the service didn’t tip it too far.

Good stuff Wayne.
Not sure what Epson's warranty policy is when something is damaged in shipment.
Maybe the carrier has some type of insurance?
I guess I have some phone calls to make.

I had an HP Z3100 ( 24" ) shipped from Boston to the west coast of British Columbia with ink installed. No issues. The printer was strapped to a pallet so it did not get tipped over. The stand was separated from the printer. Was shipped on an air cushioned truck so the ride was most likely fairly smooth.

For people interested the shipping costs were about $350 8 years ago.

Hi Dan,

Similar to Chez, I shipped a big printer long distance, it was a 7800 and it was shipped in a container from NYC to London. Sat dockside in customs the lot..

It arrived, I opened it, plugged it in, ran a clean..... Bingo..! It worked flawlessly, still does too.

One thing the 7800/9800 printers have is a lever and wing nut that locks the head in lace for transport, if the 7900/9900 series has this, then make sure it's been fitted for transport, it could make a difference.

Good luck,

Steve
