weather protection
« on: May 13, 2006, 09:50:08 am »

I'm going to do a job wich involves cruising around in a kayak on a very windy coastline. So how do I protect my gear:

- taking a Pelicase with me would be very sensible but I will have to take pictures while on the boat,
so every time I change the lens I have to open the case and expose everything to the gusts of possible rain and certain ocean spray

 or

- taking a normal camera bag in a big waterproof bag and using this as a "changing bag" ?

Another questions is how to protect the camera (5D) while using it? I got a memory of some clear bags with filterring-adapter on it but can't remember the name. Does this still exist and does it work???

Any other suggestions (except taking a 1DsII) are very much welcome!

Take a look at the [a href=\"http://www.stormjacket.com/]Storm Jacket[/url].  I have one for my 5D and it is very effective.

I save the sterile plastic covers from my operating microscope and trim them down to size. The obvious advantages are:
    1) best price
    2) clear flexible plastic - can see what your hands are touching or gripping
    3) the objective lens is covered with a high grade but removeable plastic with a rubberized rim         that fits around a lens 65 mm in diameter
I use elastics to modify. I was caught in a downpour in Portugal last month and my camera and lens worked fine right through it.
Ask your local hospital to save you one or two, because we just thow them in the garbage after one use.

I found this "bag with filterring-adapter": it's called ewa-marine. Anybody any experience?
