Presets or defaults for different Cameras?
« on: March 13, 2016, 10:22:26 AM »

Hi,
I have been using a Canon 5DS R since the summer and use a custom preset in Adobe Camera RAW that uses my own color profile, and specifies no sharpening or noise reduction.

We just bought a 7DmkII and have been using it as well. ACR automatically refers to the Adobe supplied 7DmkII color profiles and for now that is ok for me, but ACR also opens the 7DmkII files with sharpening and noise reduction applied.

I would like to use a custom preset for the 7DmkII as well as the 5DS R, but before I go experimenting and possibly muck things up I thought I would ask a question.

I understand that ACR identifies the camera so it can use the appropriate color profile for each camera, but I do not understand if it also associates custom presets with each camera? In other words, if I save a custom preset for the 7DmkII will it load automatically when I open files from that camera and will ACR load my 5DS R preset when I open files from that camera, or will I have to pay attention and manage this manually?

I ask because I took it for granted that the sharpening and noise reduction would remain inactive as per my preset but when I switch back and forth between files from the two cameras it seems to change in relation to the specific camera. I have only just begun to use the 7DmkII so it seems like a good time to get this figured out.

Thank you for any advice you may offer.

In the develop module adjust the file as you want it as default (all parameters)

Then go to the menu Develop/Set Default settings..... and click "Update to Current Settings"

This setting is camera specific.

By going into preferences/presets you can even make these default import settings iso specific or camera serial number specific (which can be handy, but I don't use that option)
