Epson Legacy Baryta and Platine on a 9890?
« on: March 10, 2016, 02:51:53 pm »

Hi gang!

Anyone try the new Legacy Baryta or Platine on a 7890 or 9890?

I just bought 2 rolls and the Epson site doesn't seem to have profiles for the 9890?

I see the 990 and P800?

Weird

Thanks

I noticed the same thing. Profiles for the 3880 with the same inks, but not for the 7890 or 9890.

Damn!

I just spent $500 on a roll of 24 and 44" Legacy Baryta and Epson doesn't support an ICC profile for my 9890!!!

That sucks Epson!

I contacted Epson cs. They replied with the 9900 ICC profiles.

Am I mistaken that the 9900 profiles are not compatible with 9890 profiles?

I can't see how they could be. I think you would have better luck trying the 3880 profiles, at least it is the same inkset. Or the 9890 profiles for the equivalent Canson papers.

Go to the Canson website and download the Canson Platine icc profile for the 9890. It is the exact same paper.
They are probably better than the Epson canned profiles anyway. These three Legacy papers are all the Canson papers we've been using. I assume Canson wanted to join up with Epson's distribution network now that they have split from Arches.

And for the record the Legacy Matte Rag is the same exact paper as the Canson Rag Photographique. I just printed duplicate prints on both today and they are the same media. The etching paper is the Canson Edition Etching.

Not yet but I can see no reason why it would be any different. I have some of the Canson Baryta in here which is very nice also but I focus on the Platine because I prefer it's surface texture, and don't need any more brightness or gamut that than the recent Platine.

Response from A hole customer service at Epson

hank you for contacting Epson regarding your Epson Stylus Pro 9890. It is my pleasure to respond to your inquiry.

Since the printer pre-dates the production of the media, profiles may not be available. In this case, if you download the profiles for the 7900/9900 there is a PDF document included that details the ICC profile settings, which can be matched in the 9890 printer driver settings to achieve the same results.
