300D to 30D - any reason not to?
« on: May 11, 2006, 08:28:04 pm »

I have read every review and topic involving the 30D, and it looks like a good improvement that I could definitely use for my strictly hobbyist shooting (prints up to 20x30).  I would like the 5D but can not afford it nor quite justify saving a little more for it.  I use the EF-S 17-85 IS, 70-200L4 and 50/1.4 with plans to try a macro someday, probably the new 60.

Is there any compelling reason I should not make this move?

The only thing I can think of would be that you could pick up a 20D pretty cheap.

Get it.  You'll like it.  I have those lenses and the 20D works great.  The 30D should only be better.

Some of the improvements over the 20D are my main selling points to switch from the 300D, and the 30D price is just fine.

Got a 20D and like it a lot. I'd also like to upgrade to 30D, but the differences are too small and the cost too high.
When buying the 20D I also looked at the 350D amd the differences are small in picture quality.
So my questions is, would a 350D do the job for you? There's quite a price difference.

I considered, it, but there are not enough changes from the 300D to warrant that particular upgrade.

i say go for it. I upgraded from the 300d to the 20d a few months ago and have been amazed at the difference. Fast fps is a huge advantage and overall color and image  quality seems to be much better. and as long as the 30d price isnt an issue, might as well go for the latest model.
