Mac Pro with dual super drives will not read dvd software disk

Mac Pro with OS X.10 and dual super drives.
Tried to load my new i1 Pro software it does not recognize the dvd in either tray.
Put a cd in and it works great.
I have a new Macbook pro and plugged the external drive into the Mac Pro and got the message "Is not supported on this computer"
Help would be appreciated.

I'm willing to bet the i1 software is outdated enough that it won't work.

The Mac software is from 2009 - hence the whole won't work in 10.10 bet.

u think you have a bad dvd burn. The age of the sw should not stop it from reading

Its is a duel drive and they both read cd's.
I downloaded the software from X-Rites website.

Will the drive read other known good DVDs ? Movie or data disc ?
Was the download an ISO image or just an installer package ?
