Dune Carving
« on: March 01, 2016, 10:23:01 am »

I shot this from about a mile or so away. Loved the soft contrasts and curves and yet some "tool marks" remained; thus the title.
Russ, I did crop this, but I promise I knew when I captured it that this was the crop I would use to avoid the shoulder of the dune in the right of frame :)

Nice image. I could see myself appreciating a large print of it.

My only nit is I wish the top dune shape wasn't cut off before it's apex. It seems slightly cramped. But still a good shot.

Thanks Matt. I have another version of it, but I had to use Content Aware Fill to get it right without the sky distracting. I attached it just for an FYI. Not sure I'm done with it.

Update: A more better ;) one of version 2. Each has different moods for me so processing is a bit different. I liked the contrasting of the tension between cutting off the "shapes" the the edge softness.

I like seeing the whole shapes better, it just adds tension when they are cut off.
I like the softer tones of the first one. I think combining those two characteristics would make a really great image.

Love the tones and "more complete" shapes of this second one, David, although I know od others who would much prefer the first for its more "incomplete" shapes as they leave one thinking, guessing, and, perhaps, engaged.

They're both nice, but my preference is for the second, both for the completeness of the forms and for the deeper tonalities. On my screen the first one looks a bit washed out especially near the edges.

I like both and find them the same and different at the same time. If I had to chose one it would be the last one.
Well seen and processed.

I agree with Eric - the second one is stunning.

I like them a lot, David. Very well conceived and implemented.
