Something blue

Could it be considered abstract? I don't know. But it's certainly blue :)

I think if you clone out the seams, the picture will have more impact.

Well done.

Since you posted it in the Critique section, I'd suggest to push the shadows on the right even further into black, to balance the vertical rectangle.

I wondered about the shadows on the right, I may have a go and see what I can do.

Not sure I want to lose the seams - I worry that it just becomes a desert of blue if they go?

Definitely don't lose the seams, but Slobodan's right on darkening the shadows.

It needs the seams methinks.

OK then if I want to darken the shadows on the right I think I can do the larger area but what about the railing? What I find happens is that I get a weird effect with fuzzy edges. What's they way to go about that?

Looking at it again I think that the right hand should be left just as it is - it adds a third level of complexity with its shading. Darkening that area would make it too much like the left hand side of the image and lose that element of subtlety.

Don't even try the railing: it's a penumbra effect, as it should be; the solid can be done, though, and I think it would do no harm to an already good shot.

I see what you mean about keeping the seams. Sometimes my minimalist attitude throws me off.

I agree. I've "previsualized" all of the suggestions and I don't think any of them would improve the original, which keeps growing on me every time I look at it.

I like the shadows and seams just the way they are.

Thanks to everyone. What you may not be able to see at that size is that the bottom right dark area contains a wire mesh which would probably be clearer when printed. I am relieved that the consensus is moving towards leaving it as is - I feared that with my level of expertise  I could only spoil it :)
