In the second of these, it has seemed to me that the camera might have been set for more depth of field.

Good shooting, Bruce. I wouldn't get too carried away about depth of field. For this kind of thing, f/8 and zone focus pretty much gets the job done. Problem is that if you pinch the aperture for more depth of field you cramp shutter speed and end up with movement, though this becomes less of a problem as ISOs increase. The most important things (with any photograph) are subject matter, composition, and light. You've pretty much nailed all three in these shots.

I especially like the last one, the guy on the left has a strange look while all the other people seem to be attracted by some unseen thing or person or animal.
