HPZ trouble with William Turner Roll
« on: February 19, 2016, 06:07:15 pm »

Hello HPZ Users
My William Turner 310 gsm is less than 1/2 way thru the roll
and it is making my print heads crash (I think it is because the curl
is so strong) I always use the right paper preset 250> Fine Art
I love this paper, would getting the 190 gsm wt. solve my issues?
I don't have any problems with 310 gsm in sheets
I appreciate any suggestions
Thanks

I've used plenty of WT on the Z. The problem isn't so much the thickness as the curl. When rolls are older and have been stored in roll form for a period of time they keep this tight curl. I've had this issue with Epson, Canon, and HP printers and it can come from just about any fine art media, Canson, Hahnemuhle, you name it,  gloss or rag matte.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the only recourse is to cut off sections of the roll and flatten them on a table with weights on top for a day or so. Or cut into manageable size sheets and flatten those.

Did you ever get this issue resolved?
I am just about to order a 24" roll of william turner for larger prints on an ipf8400.
I have been printing on smaller sheets- 310gm, without difficulty.
My prints are displayed and sold framed- so feel of the paper is less important to me.  The look and texture is vital.
Does the 190gm william turner paper handle better on a roll than the heavier 310?  Does it have the same textured appearance as the heavier paper?
Thanks

With William Turner 310 gsm rolls I usually decurl the first part to another carton core (with paper tail in decurler style = Q___ ). For a sheet cut that part then is cut off the roll. For a real print run I keep it on the roll, move the leading edge under the star wheel bar so some paper waste there and print all the images after another with auto-cut switched off in the driver, the last print gets the auto cut switched on again. The entire print run is meanwhile rolled up at the front of the paper on a 15" carton core (with paper tail etc).  I use that method too for Museum Etching 350 gsm. That goes without the heads touching the paper.

I have had issues in the past where the head height actuator on the Z3200 did not work between thin/thick media setting changes. Electric connector of the actuator that I solved. That part is inside the right side cover at the back of the PCB there.

Met vriendelijke groet, Ernst
