Not maudlin. Good shooting.

I don't see it as being maudlin. It is bleak, moody, and subdued--maybe just a tad more contrast?  Brighten the house so it is just slightly brighter than the sky? It has a King or Hitchcock ominous feeling.

I have to agree with the gentlemen above. I like the framing of the house between the two poles. This shot evokes the end of winter with spring being still far away.

Yes to the previous comments. Pardon my asking, but have you considered processing as a B/W, upping contrast, darkening the foreground a bit?

Stick with what  you've got, Scott. The dull color and low contrast are part of the feeling of the scene. This is nearly the end of winter, and the season looks like this and feels like this. You grabbed it.

On the button: look at some of Jeanloup Sieff's work where he shoots Hitch and also uses similar buildings (with his 21mm Leica objective) for fashion, and, were you to be doing black/white with 'dramatic' (and obvious, unconcealed horizon shading), you'd be twins!

Which in my book, is no mean compliment.

... look at some of Jeanloup Sieff's work...

Thanks, Rob. Interesting to see so many landscapes with vertical orientation, inspiring.

Bob(s): I will look at other versions, thanks! Russ is right: I have turned down the contrast and colour a little.

Thanks to all for the feedback.
