Totally dissimilar subjects - on the face of it - but I'm strongly reminded of the Pittsburgh essay from W. Eugene Smith. I managed to catch some of it in a Popular Photography Annual many decades ago. Seems as assignment that went from a given to one that became an obsession, it was too long, too productive ever to make it into Life or even book-form. Photo tragedies are nothing new; for many reasons the best can go unseen, even from the hand of someone such as Smith.
