contract / release for TFP

Hi
If I agree to shoot on a TFP basis, is there usually any control over the usage?

Who owns the images when both parties are working for free?
as the Photographer I'm happy for us both to be able to use the images for self promotion and personal use, but not say 6 months find my shots in a magazine.

or when doing TFP are you largely just throwing the images out there expecting the other party to do what they want with them?
