Four Options
« on: January 30, 2016, 05:52:32 pm »

I was out "playing" with the FZ1000 and made these two photographs within minutes of each other. The first was made during a squall and reflects of the softness and warmth of the morning. As fast as it started, the squall was over, creating stronger, harder, colder lighting. Thus, each photograph has a different feel. I then processed them as B&Ws which has altered the feel of each even more.

However, now that I've worked with the photographs, I seem to have lost my objectivity. I like each one equally, but for different reasons. So here's my question...

If you were to hang one on your wall, which would it be and why?

I think the first and last ones are good.

The fist one is about the weather and the last one is about the place.

I like place better.

#1 seems the most natural to me. It best reflects the atmosphere of a winter morning, cold, misty and just breaking out of the gloom.

I'll vote with both Slobodan and Bruce.
The first definitely appeals to me most, while the fourth is almost a "reportage" image: "Here's what the place looked like," with little emotion expressed.

The first shows me what it felt like to be there at that moment. That's why it wins, for me.

#2 looks like a postcard to me, an old one. And, even though it's not the best photograph out of the four (I'd agree with others on that), for some reason I like it the most... if you know what I mean.

2+4  4 has a slight lead as the deeper blacks draw my eye in

I favor the first one. On my monitor, the sky's hue is slightly warm, which provides a subtle counterpoint to the coolness in the rest of the photo.

I'm not sure B&W works well in this scene. Each of the color versions has its plusses and minuses, but I think I'd opt for the second, which, because of the sharpness of the foreground has a three-dimensional feel that's missing from the first. But it's a tough call, and I can understand reaching a point of confusion after working with them for too long, Terry.

#1 and #2 are good. #1 appears to be the most "natural" looking, and it does capture the mood of why I live in Florida. #2 is interesting because it looks like an early-mid 20th century reproduction.
