Dell UP2414Q 4K monitor and OS Yosemite
« on: January 22, 2016, 05:36:36 pm »

I have had a blissful couple of months with the Dell UP2414Q 4K monitor using Mac OS 10.9.5 but ever since I 'upgraded' to Yosemite I have not been able to view images on my MacBook pro (early 2013 with 2 x Thunderbolts) via the Displayport - says the monitor is in sleep mode - and I can only watch and preview video via the HDMI connector. I've wasted too much time trying to find a solution and am close to giving up unless someone here might be able to shed some light on what I would have thought would not be a problem!
I look forward to hearing from anyone with fingers crossed.

I'm not sure if this would be a solution for you but it's sure handy for me.  I don't drive 4K monitors though.

Hi Ron
Many thanks for the info. I had found that Apple page and it sort of confirmed that my MacBook Pro, although it has Thunderbolt connectors, is an early 2013 model which is just out of range. That it worked with 10.9.5 I suspect was lucky but now I've upgraded to 10.10 I suspect I'm not going to able to use the Dell 4K monitor until I get a newer MacBook :-( I guess we all need an excuse to upgrade...
Thanks again

You're welcome, Peter.  I feel your pain.  I have a Mid 2012 Retina MBP and a 2011 iMac.  Both have Thunderbolt and its helpful but not in the 4K monitor universe.

With luck we'll see Apple shipping Intel Skylake machines with Thunderbolt 3 in the coming months.

Does OS X (Yosemite or El Capitan) support 3rd party 4k or 5k monitors a la Retina, treating different objects differently? Larger fonts and icons and 1:1 pixel-level data?
