it wont get past the iniitialization stage at all. It starts up and goes through the progress to 100%, then the carriage moves to the left and then back to the starting position, then that error comes up, and stays up. it wont even let me x out or get into the menu. Just stays on error screen.

OK.  What does the error screen say exactly?

It has that 47:01 Error error message with the little x in a circle icon.

Then below it says: : Restart the printer. If the problem persists, call HP support."

Thank you

Try this:

Check to see if the Starwheel Assembly cable has been damaged and if it is correctly
connected to the Main PCA.

You can disconnect it and reconnect it to be sure.

Afterwards, shut the printer off, unplug and wait a minute, then plug back in and try a restart.

If it won't initialize, guess you'll have to replace the motor/assembly with the one that's coming.

You can try rotating the gears by hand to see if there is an obstruction that you may have overlooked.

I don't recommend this, but if I had this issue, I would disconnect the motor from the gears and  lay it shaft side up and try a restart just to see if the motor works or not.

Again, only if you are an advanced repair person.  Not for a beginner.

There is a possibility that you might have a bad PCA board.  Don't rule that out.  One step at a time.

Might be a good idea to unplug the cables one at a time from both ends and use a meter and do a continuity test.  Then you can rule out bad cables/connectors.

Thanks Mark,

I'll check all that. My parts are coming today so will get started back on it. If it is a bad PCA, where would I get a new one? I don't see one at LPS http://www.lpscomputer.com/collections/designjet-z3100-z3200-parts?page=2

Thanks again!
