Creating Profiles for Epson P6000
« on: January 17, 2016, 07:59:16 am »

Hi, For the last several years I have been using Image Print with my epson 3880 so I have not had to create any profiles. I could use some help with printer settings while creating a profile chart using an Xrite I1 Pro for my new Epson P6000 since Image Print isn't an option at this time.
I thought when printing the charts that the printer should manage the colors, is this correct? That option is greyed out when I am on the color matching screen and it is defaulting to color sync. On the Print settings screen in the advanced color settings tab it says the it says the printer color management features have been disabled as color is managed by your application or the operating system (I am on a mac using El Capitan).
I am working on a profile for Canson Rag Photographique.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
Steve

no, when printing the charts, you *must* not use any form 'management'.  You need to print the charts straight.  Of course, Adobe & Apple have made this difficult (removed the option from later versions of PS).

You have the .TIF files for the charts?  Open them in ColorSync utility and print from there.  There is a pulldown item that is under 'ColorSync Utility' -> Color -> 'Print as color target'

Thanks Howard I will give it a try.
Or use the free Adobe Color Print utility or the software that built the targets (it should print without color management).

I've stopped using the ACPU since I discovered the ColorSync method.  In my experience, ACPU is fairly unstable and it looks like adobe got some summer intern to slap it together.  I've also had it print in the wrong orientation and as I recall, you have to set the print dialog to landscape mode even though the paper is going through in portrait mode.

I personally just keep the chart .tiff files around and print them (via CSU) as needed.

YMMV :)

APCU has working fine for me and my customers and necessary for Windows users who can't access the CS utility. But that's a nice backup for Mac users.

Where are you seeing that?  Once you select print as a target, the Intent pulldown should go grey and unselectable.  Sounds like you're not setting something correctly

It  was on the bottom of the color sync utility page. By default it is set to automatic.
Thanks again Howard
