Valeo-RZ combo
« on: April 27, 2006, 06:04:26 pm »

Hello, I recently had a Leaf tech rep in to try the Valeo 22 with my RZ.  It seemed like a very solid setup, and it was great to be shooting with this camera again.  I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice or cautions relating to taking this route for the studio.  (I'm satisfied with the 1DSMII for location and speed.)

The one thing we couldn't figure out was how to get the back to work with the full electronic shutter, I could only work it with the mechanical one which is fixed at 1/400th sec.  Fine for strobe but otherwise very limiting!  This is the original RZ and not the RZII.

Does anyone have any experience with this setup?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

I've used the RZ with Leaf backs for some time.  The RZs have been rental cameras so I would presume they are RZIIs.  The only strange thing I have come across has been some issues with mirror up shooting.  With well worn lenses and bodies there tends to be sync issues with the back; with prestine cameras I never have problems.

Dave, get a new battery for the RZ and it should work fine again.

Thanks for the feedback, Eric.  Josef, I appreciate your good intentions but of course I already checked that during the shoot and the shutter works fine with the film back, just not the leaf.

Best,
Dave

Did you make sure the switch on the side was set to 'M'.  Valeo should work no problem w/ electronic shutter speeds. The only other thing i can think of is that the cable that connects the back to the mamiya serial port in the front under the lens wasn't hooked up.
