Eric,
You have some very intersesting shots in your portfolio. The first one I hit upon, Castelluccio, has an abstract feel whilst still being representational. I like this sort of effect. I wish I could produce it more often myslef   .

Thanks, Ray. Castelluccio is now one of my very favorite photo places in the world, with just three days there this spring. I hope I can get back during summer, fall, and winter, too.

Eric, wow- beautiful photographs.  They reminded me of the work of David Maisel, both in character and colour palette (especially his "library of dust" series)- very striking.

I'm very much appreciating the discussion in this thread, and would welcome the posters here to also read and contribute to this thread 'Abstraction in landscape photography', which I started on the day that this thread started picking up activity.

Jonathan,

I've finally posted a comment on your other thread. I'll add more when I get time.

Thanks for putting me onto David Maisel. I did not know his work, but as you guessed, it really appeals to me.

Well, you certainly have seemed to provoked a lot of comments with this image.  I am going to have to read this thread several times just to take in all the thoughts in the replies.  If nothing else, you have engaged many people in conversation and seemed to have people thinking about the concept of abstract in general and abstract photography in specfic.  Way to go.  Now as to the image.  I like the flowing forms and lines and I am fond of high contrast images.  It may be a tiny bit too high contrast, if I can explain this rightly.  The image seems to want to flow smoothly and sleekly, almost subtlely.  But the extreme contrast seems to clash somewhat with the flow. Almost a little jarring. Not that that is all bad.  I would really like to examine a large print of this to see if my impression is correct.  I would also like to see a few more examples of your work of this type to get a feel for it.  Very nice.
