Torn between color management options
« on: December 16, 2015, 06:19:20 pm »

First post, difficult decision, for myself. I currently use a Dell U3011 that is calibrated by a DTP-94 and Color Eyes display pro. I am stuck between upgrading to a NEC PA322UHD-BK-SV or an X-Rite i1Photo Pro 2 kit. I know they are two totally different items but wonder what one I would benefit from the most. I print with a 3880 and use a MBP with retina when I travel. I don't know if the puck that comes with the NEC will work with other software or another screen. Hoping that someone who has used some or all of the combination can help.

Regards,
Charlie

I'd go for the NEC and pretty much skip calibrating (or use the older products) for the MBP.

Is it safe to say I will notice a huge difference in quality and color rendition with the NEC?

It wouldn't be fair for me to answer that, it's filled with speculations and assumptions. But the SpectraView line is about the best display technology there is today (arguably along with Eizo) and if your goal is the ability to calibrate the display any number of ways for differing output, hard to beat. Seems the X-rite route doesn't really get you much IF you've got the budget and want-bumps for a SpectraView.
