Future availability of Ink cartridges for the Epson 3880?
« on: December 13, 2015, 11:23:37 am »

I am relatively new do the world of pro printers and thus have no prior experience with owning a printer model that the manufacturer has discontinued
Will there come a point when finding ink cartridges for the 3880 will become problematic?
Thanks

Epson will support the 3880 for a long time.  This something I don't worry about as a 3880 owner.

So far I have had no problems getting cartridges for my 3800 printer, two of which are different from the 3880.

Someday. for sure. But your 3880 will probably be broken and unrepairable before that.

There are a boatload of 3880s out there. Epson follows the razors/blades pricing policy, so they make most of their money on ink and paper. Why wouldn't they keep cranking out ink?

I still get r1900 and r2400 cartridges no problem. I've also had no problem using carts 5 yers expired. So I think ink will be available for atleast 5 years.

I still stock Epson inks for the Epson 2200 which was discontinued many years ago.

I was wondering about that. The 2200 was my first printer and my introduction to digital printing, even before I had a digital camera. Moving to the 3800 was a big step up.
