Looks like I waited too long to make up my mind.
Was thinking of purchasing a new 3880 for Piezography printing and using the existing inset that comes with it for use in my other 3880.
Same sort of interest in a 7890 or 9890. Pulling the inksets and using them in my 9900 and then setting the printer up with J-Teck inks for my dye sub business.
All for naught.
These things have disappeared off the planet. Have called around and no dealers have any of these models.
Did Epson run them through a grinder or dump them in the ocean to make an artificial reef??
One day their were hundreds of these the next day they were gone.
Any ideas?

Had similar thoughts of picking up a new 3880 cheap due to being a discontinued product.  Found one on Amazon UK for £2,999 ($4,522 approx  :o)

Amazon.com seems to have a few new and some used at more reasonable prices?

Maybe they took off the 7880 and 9880 tags and slapped on 7900 and 9900 tags.

Epson webs site still lists refurbished 3880s for sale.

To answer Dan's question, dealers were probably apprised of the new P800 and that the 3880 would be discontinued.  Existing stock was sold and Epson is not making the 3880 any longer so it's not a grand conspiracy in my mind.

Soylent Green is people!!!

It's not like Epson was making 3880's until the day they announced the P800.  They stopped probably a few months before and let inventory drain away.

A local shop bought a 9890 in mid October (Italy) from official dealer, so at least up until then it was available for purchase. Don't know much else, but if it was old stock they probably got a good deal. The printer is new.
