Colder weather ocean views
« on: November 25, 2015, 01:03:40 am »

The temperature has been getting a bit nippy--dipping to around 60 degrees after the sun sets. I know what you folks from northern climes are thinking...

I like all of them (with a preference for the second one), yet I think quite a bit of beauty is lost by them to be shown alone.

IHMO, if you post all of this images of yours in one single thread it would become much more clear the nuances of your exploration of the subject (exploration which, I think, is as much interesting as the images themselves).

A gorgeous set. But I would change the title a bit, as they all look like Hot Summer Day ocean scenes to me (from Boston, where we are desperately hoping the temperature might hit 60 on Friday, after a number of typical November days with highs around 40.   ;)

I agree with Diego's comment about posting a collection of images. I am now antsy to show the work, and not with the intention of selling  (blasphemy). My goal for 2016 is to land a show.

Great stuff. What are you using to take these? Medium format? They are so clean and crisp, even the long exposure shots have that clean crisp look.

And to think: Bob actually takes these all hand-held, with 60-second exposures!   :D

Thanks for sharing !  These are pretty wonderful looking images and make me want to know more about where they taken and some of the technical details.

I use an Olympus EM5-II. At ISO 200 and 100 the files are crisp and hold up well enough to make big prints. The Oly premium lenses are A-1. Sometimes I mount the Oly onto a Cambo Actus with Rodenstock, Nikon, and Schneider enlarger lenses. I like tech cameras. I had a Sony A7 for a few months. I like the Oly better.

I don't do much in post other than massage the files so they will print okay. Often it takes a few curve adjustment layers and a color tweak to reign things in.

These photos were taken in Florida, on the Gulf coast.

That's only when the temp is above 70 F. Anything below that makes me shiver and then it's impossible to handhold the camera for 60 seconds.

Then you need a camera with built-in Anti-Shiver Stabilization.   ;)
