Acratech Level Base

Acratech's 1/2 lb. Level Base looks like an attractive alternative to the Gitzo 1321 (1.5 lbs). Does anyone have field experience with this unit for landscape photography? Are controls smooth and secure, is the range of adjustment adequate, etc.?
