645DF+ Camera Lockup Question
« on: November 23, 2015, 12:25:44 am »

Re: 645DF+ Camera Lockup Question

Is the 645DF+ camera lockup a real phenomena or does this happen to an odd camera body here and there?

If and when this happens what is the cause for this and is there a permanent fix? Should this be of concern?

Thx

From what I've been told it was a common problem but the firmware updates solved about 99% of these issues.

So if you're experiencing constant lockups you might want to check that first.

I owned the 645 DF and the DF+ before upgrading to the XF.  To get the best usage satisfaction make sure the firmware is updated.

Check out this link -  https://captureintegration.com/mamiya-leaf-df-firmware-2-31-released/

Also the addition of the Ejji Mark II – 2 Batteries & Charger Kit will really snap up the camera's performance.

I didn't experience "constant lockups" with the DF+.  One other tip is to use the latest 3400 mAh Digital Back Battery for Phase One and Mamiya Leaf P+/IQ/Credo.

Looking forward to seeing some nice images from you.

It was more of an issue on the DF, a lot of time due to batteries, AA in the 6 pack holder.  However some of the more modern LS lenses could also have issues.

The DF+ has seeming less issues, with latest firmware.  You also need to verify which of your Phase/Mamiya etc AF lenses have firmware, as they also need up to current.  Examples, the 28mm and 28mmLS, 75-150, the 105-210 all have lens firmware.

Issue, is you really need a dealer to upgrade the lens firmware.  I used to use MAC group, but have been told they no longer work on this.  So it would have to go to a Phase One dealer.  Also, you can't upgrade the firmware on the DF+ without the V grip.

Enough issues, that it should really be done by a dealer.

Up to date firmware, and use of the Phase One branded LiOn battery kit should eliminate any lockups (or reduce them to being extraordinarily rare). Early firmware versions, and use of some AA batteries would lead to frequent lockups for some kinds of shooting.

If not, have the body evaluated by your dealer for possible hardware malfunctions leading to the lockups, which would be covered under warranty (if you're in warranty).

Lithium ion battery pack from Phase or EJJI is a must-have; endless power and adds stability.  Makes sure your MFDB battery is charged well too.

If you must use AA batteries in the insert (great for lightweight backup), use only the Energizer AA Lithiums. About $10 for a pack of four. Don't use rechargeable AA cells; just because you can doesn't mean you should.
