Another Derwentwater Autumn shot
« on: November 22, 2015, 06:46:21 pm »

Another from the series taken at the start of this month. All of the leaves have now been lost to two storms plus the first snow has arrived but is due to melt soon as another warm and wet spell sets in. ISO 200 and no tripod as I was walking along the shore of the lake as the sun lit up the band on the hillside for a few seconds so a quick shot. All comments welcome.

This is autumnal colours at their very best. Strong composition and the processing is spot on. It should make a first class print.

Thanks for the positive comments. I had not thought to print this but I note that the long dimension is 4600px so should be just able to get a nice A3 print on soft textured paper. I am not one of those who can produce a 30" by 20" from a 6Mp file as I often hear quoted in some places. I should have zoomed in as I had a Nikon 70 -200 f4 lens on but the light on the hill vanished very quickly plus I had not really noticed how nice the cropped image was. This is not a justification for a D810 rather than my Fuji XE-1, I should train myself to see telephoto landscape images and that along with photographing trees is this years target.

I love the composition and the colors but the thing that makes it magical is the light on the distant hill and its reflection.

+1. I love the series of arcs: light on mountain, its reflection, and the curve of the sunlit trees. Beautiful.

The serendipitous position and color of the kayak is the icing on the (c)lake!

It pays to revisit the same scene in different light, and to have a vision of what you want.  I did not much care for any of your previous versions, but this one hits everything perfectly.  Congratulations.

Very nice!

I would personally keep less water, probably just keeping the trees reflexions, but the image still works as is.

To me the key is the co-existence of the coloured leaves with the late sunlit snow. The kayak is of course a great addition.

Cheers,
Bernard

Thanks again everyone for the encouraging comments. This shot and the others in a previous post were shot in a 9 minute period only. Slobodan the only thing serendipitous was the colour of the canoe as I shot him often as he paddled along. The light was changing by the second with the island and the trees on the shore being alternatively in sun and shade. The slash of colour on the hill lasted less than 50 seconds. On driving to this point the lake was covered in mist which just lifted as I arrived on shore, 50 minutes later a breeze sprung up and the reflection died. I tried to shoot here over the next 2 days but heavy mist cloaked the entire lake and since then Cumbria's normal rain and wind has set in. The leaves have all gone now.
