New Catalog Old FIles...some pre rated
« on: November 15, 2015, 06:43:31 pm »

the old lightoom catalogs bit the dust with the passing of my old workhorse computer..

On importing a folder of images frim an extrenal drive   into Lightroom CC2015  I find that two DNG files have already been rated and color coded.

How could the files "adopt" their ratings from a catalog thats not even connected to the machine the new catalog is on?

this has to be the most curious issue I have ever encountered.

That information is stored in the DNG file, nothing strange here

Yep. You might have had the option to write metadata to files turned on, or manually did so, which can write your keywords, captions, ratings, etc etc all into the file. Which many of us think is prudent for exactly the scenario you are experiencing. And that also makes that info available to other applications outside of Lr.
