Wow! Amazing!
I'm always looking for stuff like that, especially suggestive trees.
Good catch.

(had image of cypress knee in head before clicking)
Yep, really does look like bended knee! Is the tree on a stream bank being undercut?
I find tree roots most interesting subjects, too. I will have to select a few cypress knees from my trip to Southern Illinois swampland* and post. * I bet you didn't know that there are swamps in S. Illinois - yep, quite biodiverse too - one of 17 "important wetlands" recognized by an international wetlands foundation. Cache River / Cypress Creek state and national wildife preserves.

The tree grows along side a gully that has intermittent flow. Its root all bend back into the bank and into the ground. Yes, you're right about my not knowing there are cypress swamps in southern Illinois, but I'm not utterly surprised. I've spent some time canoeing around Trap Pond in Delaware (http://www.destateparks.com/PARK/trap-pond/index.asp) which is also a cypress swamp. It may be one of the northernmost cypress swamps, but don't hold me to that claim.

I didn't read the title but when I saw this shot, I saw those knees immediately…
Bravo!
