Epson P-7000 Substitute Paper Profile
« on: November 06, 2015, 02:13:23 am »

Hello all,

I just took delivery of the new Epson SureColor P-7000 and, no surprise, paper profiles have yet to be released. Specifically I use Canson's Baryta Photographique and Rag Photographique. Without the ability to make my own profiles, would it be wise to use Epson's 7900 or 9900 profiles in the meantime?

I don't think it is a good idea...They don't ship profiles for Epson papers ?

George,

Profiles for all Epson papers do ship with it, but I've only used those papers for proof prints. I've just never been an Epson paper fan...not that there aren't some fine choices by Epson. I'm really a two or three paper printer. That said, I may have to explore Cold Press until Canson gets around to creating profiles for the new printers.

This ,I think ,is a better idea.I suggest to use the PLPP (Premium Luster Photo Paper)profile for the Baryta photographique and the VFAP(Velvet Fine Art Paper)profile for the Rag photographique. You will need of course some corrections in PS or LR but it will work,I think.Good luck and please report your experience  about the print quality of this printer.

It took Canson about eight weeks to build the profiles for the P800, after that printer was released.  When I inquired during the first week, I received a nice reply from Canson indicating that they had not been provided pre-release units from Epson (as, presumably, they have in the past) and that their team in France was hard at work on making the profiles.

I expect you'll see the Canson profiles in a number of weeks.

You should have some profiles installed by the driver for some Epson papers. 3rd party? You'll have to wait on them. Now in terms of Epson profiles, keep in mind there are two groups. One from Sekio Japan and a group made in the US. The Seiko profiles kind of suck, the one's made in the US are rather good. You can tell which is which if you can examine the profiles internal names where you'll find Seiko in the name; might want to avoid them. So the lesson here is not all profiles are created equally and it's quite possible that's the case with 3rd party profiles too.

Here's an example of the Seiko profile and a custom profile to give you an idea, these are actual photo's of the output from a 3880:

This is really helpful... I always wondered why there were duplicates.  Thanks!

Sorry... should have said "multiple profiles with different names for the same printer and paper"

Will not work. The ink density needs to be tuned for one. Else you get crushed blacks for sure. (Slider for color density)
You will need to get your own profiles i am afraid.
For the rag photographize and vfap as mediatype i guestimate you need to set the color density to minus 7 or minus 10 there abouts. This will affect the tone curve to black and the Dmax. The Dmax will peak around those cd values. The details in the dark arwas will also be best.
I make my profiles with i profiler and wit 1733 patches.

Here's what I'm referring to, note that if you see a V (as in version) within the name, that is the US profiles which don't have among other things, this issue with blue's:

Thanks... that makes it easy to sort them out.
