Receding Storm (Canyonlands)
« on: November 05, 2015, 11:34:01 am »

I know, it looks like a post card photo, but I just couldn't help my self.

Great scene. Processing just a tad too crunchy/contrasty for my taste.

There are almost two independent images in there. One on the right, without the rocks on the left, could certainly stand on its own and still be spectacular. Printed as a diptych or even triptych, perhaps?

Nice catch, I can't resist these scenes either!
I like it and I don't mind the processing but I feel like the composition is stretched out a bit with the middle zone not having a lot of interest in it.
I might have tried to move left, moving those rocks closer to the storm and rainbow (I realize this isn't always possible). That would tighten up the composition, and maybe not leave the rocks looking cut off as they do.
But that nit pick aside it's still a nice image.

excellent colour/tone rendition, but I find 100% convincing the composition.
All the best,

It's a very striking scene, one I would have been delighted to capture. But it feels to me like the rocks and rainbow are fighting for attention. Maybe try toning down the brightness of the rocks a little?

You were blessed by light and the bonus was the rainbow. This is a gift. You take and run with it. Once taken, then you work it and create a photo.

Luck favored you on this day! Well done!

Very fine image. It can work in many ways. As it is, I can see the benefit of including the rocks, they seem to "anchor" the right hand side. Plus, the space in the middle, being empty, "invites" the storm to move in to it.
