tiny white specs
« on: April 04, 2006, 12:17:28 pm »

I just got a Canon 5D and did some shots at 1600 ISO and notice the expected noise, except that there are hundreds of tiny pixel sized white or light gray specs all around the image, particularly obvious against dark out of focus backgrounds. Anybody noticed this too?

I haven't but only have a couple hundred images on my 5D and only a few at high ISO.  I'm out with my camera tonight so I'll make a point of trying some at 1600.

Can you attach an example or two?

I'll post here a somewhat big version of it, because otherwise the specs are not seen clearly. You can see them better in the darker areas. They appear to be some kind of noise. I had seen them in substantially lesser amounts in my 1DsMII and 1Ds.
I am intrigued.
Thanks,

How are you shooting the images?  JPEG?  RAW?  If so, which converter?  Are you applying any sharpening?

Always RAW and in this case no sharpening. Straight from ACR.
