Bay at the back of the ocean
« on: October 23, 2015, 10:29:13 am »

Shot earlier this week on Iona. Just started to rain AGAIN. The wind was starting to get up and the next day the ferries were cancelled. I suppose that this is a golden hour shot as the sun was due to set in an hour. All comments welcome especially about the colour balance.

The colour of water around Iona is gorgeous and all too tropical-looking; in such contrast to the bleak, wind- and rainswept, rocky shores. Nicely seen.

And much more interesting than a dry, sunny day photo would be.

I like this photo a lot The color balance - well, I know the Mediterranean can display some intense colors, and only you can decide whether the blue/green of the water is accurate or over processed. Have you tried darkening the beach a bit, particularly the part in the lower center? Anyway, great photo, wish I had been there!!

Thanks for the comments. I have increased the contrast of the blues/ aquas but not by a lot. I am using daylight balance having recently moved from Auto as I find the colours produced are better. I did use a polariser mostly to increase the exposure time but it did increase the colour in the water. I hope that the colours are believable. Iona really does have tropical water colours despite being at 56 N, about the same as Labrador and Southern Alaska. Peter the beach has not been darkened but I have applied a vignette to the entire image. The new image posted here was taken Feb 2010 at the same location. 30 minutes after it was taken a blizzard hit.
