Duplicates in LR CC 2015.2.1 in Collection and how to delete?
« on: October 21, 2015, 02:45:28 pm »

After importing from an Aperture database, LR CC  informs  that it has spotted 4K pictures which are duplicates. This is in nearly 100 %  correct. But this is not on name but on contend, because all duplicates have a different filename and are jpg's. LR puts them in a Collection where you can see them BUT not Delete them!! Now I know where they are but are not able to delete them because you can’t delete photos from a collection LR informs me when I want to do.  Is there perhaps a simple option to delete the duplicates which are shown in the collection?
Thanks, Henk

Right click and choose Go to Folder in Library. You can delete them there.

Are they in lots of different folders, Henk? If so.....

I don't want to publicise this, but I trust you will proceed with great caution....  Whether you are in a collection or folder, the undocumented Alt+Ctrl+Shift+Delete on PC or Alt+Cmd+Shift+Backspace on Mac deletes without any confirmation or other precaution. So if you are sure you aren't making a mistake, and everything is backed up just in case, it might help you.

PS Same Henk?

Thanks for the tip John. Just tested it and works like a charm.
In windows the deleted files (together with their sidecar) end up in your wastebasket, so if you make a mistake and find it soon enough you can restore both to their previous location and re-import and it should be back in your library with all the last settings (but without the history).

If they have different file names then they weren't duplicates. They may relate to the same original, but each version produced was different in some way.

Thanks John, This is great. Tested it and indeed it works and the files are in the wastebasket so if... there is a fallback.

There is an app called 'Gemini' that works really well on Mac to remove all the doubles after your OK.

The OP's problem is deleting files he's already identified as duplicates.

External apps still leave you with a mess in Lightroom. Duplicate Finder is a Lightroom plugin that works on Mac and PC.
