I like your photo, and yes (as Brandt said) it is an unusual building. Out of curiosity, what purpose does the facade serve?

I like the interplay of the stiff lines of the building facade and the soft mountains behind, interesting juxtaposition.

Thanks guys for looking. The town was founded in 1880 and "By 1885 the town was home to about 3,500 people, had six hotels and 20 saloons". The last resident died in 1939 and in 1955 the television series Sgt Preston of the Yukon used the town as a backdrop. The false fronts were added to some of the buildings at that time. In 1975 the town was added to the National Historic Places Register.

Nice image. The facades were mostly just an architectural style IIRC. Crested Butte still requires them on the main strip for any new development there.

That's not too far from here but I have never visited. I need to get over there one of these days!
