How to control Canon 20D shooting from a Mac?
« on: March 29, 2006, 11:58:47 pm »

Hi,

I am looking for a soft that allows to pilot my Canon 20D from a Mac G5 running OSX 10.4 during capture session.

The utility provided by Canon EOS Capture does'nt work ( so many complains from users...)

There are a few softs for PC but still did not see anything for Mac....

Does anyone has experience?

Thanks in advance for your help to a French expatriate in Indonesia...

Capture One Pro does it (see here) but the price is hefty.

Have you tried to download the latest software from Canon? Software has been updated in 2006 (here). I don't have a 20D so I can't test for you.

OK I did not know that it works on MAc....
Do you mean that with this soft I can avoid to take the picture on the CF card and directly store it on the computer as does Canon capture?
I don't see anything on their website...
Thanks in advance for your help..

Yes, Capture One Pro does work tethered, ie files are stored on your computer instead of your memory card. I have not tested with a 20D but from the software specs it should work. Capture One  Pro is available as a 30-day demo on [a href=\"http://www.phaseone.com/Content/Software/PROSoftware.aspx]Phase One website.

Before investing in Capture One, I would try to download the latest Canon software versions as they are free and were updated recently (2006-03).
Good luck!

[a href=\"http://www.phaseone.com/Content/Software/Camera%20support.aspx]Here's the link to the supported cameras in tethered mode (Capture One Pro only). The Canon 20D is listed as supported.
