A.D.D in CINEX
« on: October 08, 2015, 01:00:45 pm »

Hi,
Could someone explains me in the most simplier posible terms what is exactly this Dragon Advanced Debayer (in what it differs from the traditional all life debayer) and in wich cases to use it on export?

It's an algorithm that uses information from several adjacent frames to render the frame you want. Think of it like temporal noise reduction in Resolve on steroids, but applied to acuity as well as noise (and other things as well, perhaps). It's a way to maximize image quality by using more of the available image data at the expense of very long render times. It's primarily intended for still images, bit if you have enough patience, you can render motion with it as well.

Thanks Dave.

So nothing to do with the Dragon itself.
That can be used with every generation of R3Ds no?

I saw that in RCX for long and never took the time to
Inquire. Same happens with Alchemy. It's there, but
I don't have a clue of what it really is for...
I'm so lazy sometimes. Lol.
I remember when they implemented alchemy everybody was
Wao and I wondered why such a big deal.
At that time J.J was still frontman at Red and he would explain
That this was a revolution...I think I missed the party.

But in practise the gain in quality is really visible
And worth the render time? I need to test that with a few seconds
Footage to see.

It is Dragon only, IIRC. (ADD means "Advanced Dragon Debayer")

Yes, the improvement is visible and worth it for stills. For motion? It's a lot of render time. You'll have to decide if it's worth it. I think not for output to HD. You get a lot of bonus there from downsampling.
