Thank you, Francois for your comment. You are absolutely right, I was looking just at the dominant shape in the image, and totally overlooked the upper right corner with the water behind the cliff.
The water there was very clear and shallow, almost translucent, lit by the sun, and consequently quite overexposed. Instead of toning it down, I took the easy way out and just cropped it off.
For comparison, I included also the color version, which I like much better, especially the subtle striations on the rock wall.
The color in that body of water (Georgian Bay which is part of Lake Huron) near the shore is quite something. The last image shows the water pattern and wide pallette of color shades as the water gets deeper, lit by strong sunlight at noon.
