This is an interesting new arrival, lists for about $1K.

Interesting indeed. They took the DR60D design's concept but pushed it to another level.
That looks really good. (and also looks expensive...edit: 1K? oh! that's worth it)

The preamps are said to be for real. The preamps on the Zoom H4 etc are not so hot, not that it matters if you are using wireless.
Nothing beats the Sound Devices preamps; unfortunately, it is possible that their Pix recorders cannot do sound without video input

I can confirm that PIX-LR works only with PIX-E video recorders series. If you need Zoom alternatives in Sound Devices (i.e. standalone audio only recorders) there are the wonderful 702 and 702T (in my opinion, the best 2-channels field recorders in all over the world!) Anyway - again, in my opinion - PIX-LR itself is a very good reason to prefer PIX-E recorders series to Atomos devices (probably same video quality - we will see - but not the same audio quality).

Yeah, what I meant is that the Pix-E cannot be used even with the accessory as a sound-only recorder.
Although I guess someone could just tape a gopro to it :)
