Rollei Horseman integration
« on: March 23, 2006, 05:29:33 pm »

I am intrigued by Michael's comment in today's What's New about planned product integration between Rollei and Horseman. I suppose it makes sense that, with their 6x6 medium format system on a death watch, Rollei could be aiming at the high end digital view camera niche. View camera motions are one thing that the formats 35mm and smaller are not doing much about so far, with in particular no sign of any new tilt/shift lenses for any of the new sub-35mm formats.

Hasselblad have confirmed that they are working on a T&S lens for the H series.

In my experience, shifts and tilts are much easier for the photographer to get right on a big camera than on a small one. That is surely one reason not much has happened with T/S in the small formats. So I think there could be a market for a digital MF view camera. The Rollei-Horseman collaboration will be interesting to watch.
