I have personally only used the Aptus I screen so I hope a Aptus II user will respond too, but what I've heard is that the resolution and size is the same on the Aptus II, but the backlight is stronger so it works better in bright light outdoors, and hopefully the backlight increases the contrast of the screen as well so focus check becomes easier. The Aptus II is faster too, so you should not need to wait those ~4 seconds to get to 100%.
I think that the focus check is acceptable on the Aptus I too though (although not great), which makes it unique among backs of that age.
It's a mystery that most back manufacturers did not implement good focus checking earlier, can't be that hard. A screen with square pixels and decent contrast, plus a sane demosaicer and sharpening is all that's required, not seldom the older backs fail on all these aspects. Hasselblad is very guilty, my H4D-50 is barely usable for focus check (sort of acceptable, but I think it's worse than the Aptus I).
