The city and the sub
« on: September 21, 2015, 04:38:36 pm »

I had a business trip to Portland last week and got out for a couple of walks at night. There's a new bridge there which was fun to shoot and very popular and on the way back I came across this sub by the OMSI Science Museum, looking away from the new bridge everyone was taking photos of (including me).

I liked how this old steel bridge provided the frame and the juxtaposition of the skyline and this old sub (USS Blueback).

An unusual subject that is rather well done!

Very nice. For me, the ambient light shining off of the sub's hull is wonderful and fits the scene perfectly.

Thanks! I was pleased with that light too. There was a very bright bare bulb just behind the protruding top of the sub (surely there is a better name for that) and I had to position myself to block it. The reflected light from that ended up being just enough. I tried a couple of compositions but none worked as well as this one.

Also called a sail due, I assume, to it's shape.
