Greetings:
Saw an ad for this in a recent photography magazine. Pantone is offering a new 'base level' monitor calibration device called 'Huey' for $89 (US). I believe the EyeOne controls start at $250 US and go up from there.
I haven't seen any reviews on how well it works, but anything is better than nothing for someone who's on a budget...

Also consider the Monaco Optix XR, can be used for CRT and LCD.

I recently bought the Huey and it certainly is very easy to use. My monitor looks good, but it also looked pretty good before when I eyeball calibrated it with Wyziwyg, but I'm slightly color blind, so what do I know. I have printed only a few items since I installed it, and they were very close to the soft proofs so I'm satisfied for now.
