Ipf8300 printheads into ipf8400
« on: September 16, 2015, 05:46:44 pm »

Hi everyone,
Just joined forum and have a question. We just spent big bucks replacing both printeheads in a cannon ipf8300 as well 2 maintenance tanks.. Machine is still not working. We're going to buy the Ipf8400, however my question is this: the printheads are brand new that my husband just intstalled into the ipf8300, can he re-intall them into the new ipf8400? Anyone ever try swapping printehads into different machines before? I know the printheads are the same for both printers according to lexjet site. It would be nice to have them as back-up or be able to sell the new ones that come with the ipf8400 to try and recoup some of the money that just got flushed down the drain.

Thanks in advance!

according to my Canon service rep: once the printhead is installed in a printer, it cannot be used in a different printer. the 8300 and 8400 use the same printhead though.

Once you install the printhead it is coded and cannot be used with other printer. If it doesn't work after head replacement, most likely motherboard may be damaged, and if it's damaged it probably fried new printheads. A fried printhead may damage motherboard, so you'd better don't try to put them into the new machine (so or so they won't work).

Well that is the thing I learned. If you have a bad head, and you keep trying to do cleanings and nozzle evaluations over and over, then you get the error message that the head is over heating. At that point, or preferably before that point, STOP or you will over heat the mainboard and blow it. I did. And I can't blame Canon for that. It was my own damn fault.

Same question here, can a pf-03 printhead be moved from ipf5000 to an ipf 5100, but I gather not, since it is coded.
