Epson 3880 ink pricing fluctuations
« on: September 09, 2015, 01:03:30 pm »

Not sure if people have caught this or not, but it seems that most 3800/3880 carts have jumped by almost 10% or more in price in the past few months. Most carts could be had over the past few years for $50-51 per cart. Occasionally one would pop up to $52, but rarely. In my last order before this week, I bought several carts in May for about $50.50 each. Since the introduction of the P800 (whose carts are about $55 each on average) 3880 cart prices at B&H and Adorama jumped up. Most are in the $55-56 range, but some are up to $58 like Vivid Magenta. My local dealer (Hunt's) has them all for around $55, none for $58 like B&H. While that is still technically lower than Epson's RRP of $62.95, seeing a big jump like that after years of stable $50 prices was a shock.

While it's a minor cost adjustment in the big scheme of things, it did catch me by surprise. If you haven't bought ink in a while, take notice.

I dimly recall hearing that there would be a price jump several months ago.

Dont forget, at Hunt's you drive to/from and pay tax vs. order from BH and have it the next day

You should travel more. Prices in the US are or were incredibly cheap.
I have paid $108 in Australia which would have been about $75 US.
I could buy them from the US but free trade doesn't exist.

US dollar goes up, international buyers have to pay more. Sales decline as a result. Suppliers in the US increase domestic prices to keep up volumes.
Then as prices rise, inflation comes into play, so interest rates are increased. As that happens, interest as a cost is applied to everything and we have more inflation. Everthing gets dearer. And so on ....
