Elements and Principles of Design
« on: September 06, 2015, 11:44:36 AM »

I suppose we all respond to these forms intuitively, but I hope having them explicitly stated will allow me
to think about them directly. May even help me choose better compositions

Regards,
Dale.

Kudos to Alasdair Gillespie for a wonderful refresher, all in one place discussion.

It's sort of like a nice checklist of things to be aware of when looking for images. Nobody should try to get them all into one photo, but if it reminds you to ask yourself questions like "What are the lines doing in this scene?" or "Would a different viewpoint be more/less dynamic?" then it can be helpful.

It's like an abecedarian list of design elements instead of alphabet letters.

Cool!

Fine examples showing the principles of visual design. Appreciate that you showed examples that are both simple and non-traditional to illustrate these principles. One can abstract anywhere and you have demonstrated this.

Thank you, John R.!  All excellent photographs incorporate some or many of the Elements and Principles.

Dale Villeponteaux: Thank you for your comments.  Yes, hopefully it will help with better compositions.  I know it guides me and the Elements and Principles do become intuitive.

Eric Myrvaagnes:Thank you for your comment...Yes a sort checklist and I agree you wouldn't be able to put all those in one photo.  Yes, it should inspire a photographer to ask those questions while shooting.  The Elements...L 3S C V T (line, shape, size, space, colour, value, texture) will help to make better photographs.
